Well folks woke up this morning again full of doom as we had 20 locks to go through and 10 miles to row. The planning as you know was up the creek and I was doubtful about the
quality of volunteers for this long stretch without a back up boat. So as all condemned men we ate a hearty breakfast at a Premier Inn in Oldham. Good breakfast and good hotel 8/10
It’s gone really well. We had two volunteers Ian and Derek both on bikes and they were flying off to the next lock as soon we were through. As we were going down hill we decided to stay on Swan through the locks and this speeded up the process considerably. To the extent that we arrived in Ashton under Lyne, in the rain, but by mid afternoon.
Just a note from last night, we arrived in Uppermill yesterday afternoon without a place to stay (who was organising the overnight accommodation …oh yes
Stephen …Ed). I rang Bob the Gas back at GHQ who gave me two possible names who could help. The second, Peter, who’s narrow boat was moored at the bottom of his garden welcomed us with open arms and Swan was safe for the night. ( good cafes in Uppermill – worth a visit).
